13. The Pregnancy Pact (2010)

Inspired by a true story, the film explores the costs of teen pregnancy with a story of a fictional “pregnancy pact” set against the backdrop of actual news reports about teen pregnancy from June 2008. Sidney Bloom, an online magazine journalist, returns to her hometown to investigate the sudden spike in teenage pregnancies at her old high school. Almost immediately, she comes up against Lorraine Dougan, the head of the local conservative values group and mother of Sara, a newly pregnant 15-year-old. Meanwhile, the school nurse tries to convince the school to provide contraception to students to address the pregnancy epidemic but is met with great opposition from the school and community. As the number of pregnant girls climbs to 18, a media firestorm erupts when Time Magazine reports that the rise in the number of pregnancies at the school is the result of a “pregnancy pact.” As the mystery unfolds about whether or not “the pact” is real, Sidney soon realizes that all of the attention is disguising the much larger issues that are at the core of the story.

Biography/Drama. When I watched this movie, my mind was on other stuff so it was hard for me to focus. Overall, I thought it was okay. It’s odd for me because I was a naive child and didn’t think of getting pregnant and having sex when I was in school. It is super weird to see these girls making a pact to get pregnant at like 15 and 16. I love Thora Birch in this movie, although it is weird for me to see her playing an adult haha. I think the movie covers a lot of important things.
12. Swing Vote (2008)

In a remarkable turn-of-events, the result of the presidential election comes down to one man’s vote.

Comedy/Drama. Ugh, this movie is so damn cute. It seemed reallllly long, but the ending is sooo worth it. I love Kevin Costner…it isn’t my typical Kevin Costner movie, but I have no complaints.
11. Jeux d’enfants (Love Me If You Dare) (2003)

As adults, best friends Julien and Sophie continue the odd game they started as children — a fearless competition to outdo one another with daring and outrageous stunts. While they often act out to relieve one another’s pain, their game might be a way to avoid the fact that they are truly meant for one another.

Comedy/Drama/Romance. Wow. I’m seriously speechless after watching this movie. It was REALLY frickin’ weird in parts of it, but overall it was an amazing movie. This movie is in French, but it does have subtitles. It’s really worth watching!
10. The Invention of Lying (2009)

A comedy set in a world where no one has ever lied, until a writer seizes the opportunity for personal gain.

Comedy/Romance. This movie is great! I wasn’t sure that I would like it at first, but it definitely made me laugh. It really is just overall an awesome movie in more ways than one.
9. Ghost of Girlfriends Past (2009)

Connor Mead, a successful fashion photographer and a Lothario keen on casual sex, goes to his younger brother’s wedding to convince him not to marry. He arrives at his dead uncle’s estate during the rehearsal the night before the wedding; he starts in, taking his brother aside, trashing marriage. Later in the men’s room, his uncle, who taught Connor all he knows about women, appears to him, confesses to have been wrong, and tells Connor that three ghosts will visit him that night: the ghosts of girlfriends past, present, and future. Connor has already set the breakup in motion. Can he learn anything from his life and fix what he’s broken?

Comedy/Romance. I adore Matthew McConaughey & Jennifer Garner soooo much. This movie was everything I expected & more. I could see myself watching this over and over & recommending it to everyone. Love, love, loveeee.
8. Bride Wars (2009)

Two best friends become rivals when they schedule their respective weddings on the same day.

Comedy/Romance. This movie wasn’t as great as I was hoping for. It kind of pissed me off in the beginning how they were so mad at each other lol, but I think that’s just because I felt like they were throwing away that opportunity to be there for each other during such an important time. I’m lame. The ending was cute & there are definitely several funny parts…I felt like I had already seen them all in the trailers, but still funny.
7. Leap Year (2010)

A woman who has an elaborate scheme to propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day, an Irish tradition which occurs every time the date February 29 rolls around, faces a major setback when bad weather threatens to derail her planned trip to Dublin. With the help of an innkeeper, however, her cross-country odyssey just might result in her getting engaged.

Comedy/Romance. I seriously feel like mush after watching this, haha. This movie has every thing I love about chick flicks. I can see myself watching this movie over & over again as well as recommending it to all of my girl friends.
6. The Hangover (2009)

A Las Vegas-set comedy centered around three groomsmen who lose their about-to-be-wed buddy during their drunken misadventures, then must retrace their steps in order to find him.

Comedy. This is seriously the funniest movie I have seen in a whileeee. I was already laughing 5 minutes into the movie. It was hilarious. I would definitely watch it again & would recommend it to anyone looking for laughs.
5. Nothing Like The Holidays (2008)

A Puerto Rican family living in the area of Humboldt Park in west Chicago face what may be their last Christmas together.

Comedy/Drama/Romance. I loved this movie so much. Christmas movies are so comforting for me. The Puerto Rican family in this movie really made me feel all warm inside even when things weren’t going the best. I would watch this movie again and would definitely recommend it to people.
4. Four Christmases (2008)

Every Christmas happily unmarried Brad and Kate escape divorced parents and exasperating relatives by getting on a plane. This year the airport shuts down and the couple is forced to celebrate four family Christmases in one hectic, hilarious day. Can Brad and Kate’s relationship survive Four Christmases?

Comedy/Romance. I’m not sure what I expected it to be, but it wasn’t as good as I was hoping for. This movie definitely brought me a few laughs. I still liked it, definitely not my favorite Reese & Vince movie, but it was cute!
3. Hatching Pete (2009)

The movie is about a boy named Cleatis Poole, who becomes his school’s mascot. He comes from a long line of mascots in his family, but it turns out that he can’t do it because he’s allergic to the costume. So his shy best friend, Pete Ivey, does it for him. But when Poole starts becoming popular for being the mascot, and people don’t know that it’s really Pete, trouble starts between the friends.

Comedy/Family. This movie was soooo cute. It s a Disney Channel movie, and I am a sucker for those. I would definitely watch this movie again…probably numerous times, haha. It’s very High School Musicalish only without the whole musical part, haha.
2. Write & Wrong (2007)

Byrdie, fast approaching 50 years old, is considered an over-the-hill has been script writer, along with her old studio friends and agent who have all been replaced by younger models. So Byrdie concocts a plan of revenge - get her young charming nephew, Jason, to pretend to be a script writer. With his gift of the gab it is not long before Jason’s sold Byrdie’s script. Trouble is he’s sold it to Andrea, Byrdie’s friend, and as the two fall for each other Byrdie’s conscience gets the better of her. Finally the truth trickles out and Byrdie has to fight for her script and Jason has to fight for Andrea.

Comedy/Drama. I didn’t care for this at all & would not recommend it to anyone. I just could NOT get into it at all. I love Kirstie Alley usually, but this was a very low grade movie in my opinion. It’s lucky I’m even giving it 1 full heart.
1. Long Lost Son (2006)

Fourteen years after her estranged husband and 4-yr-old boy drown at sea in a terrible storm, the still-shaken, still-troubled mother discovers (in a friend’s vacation home-movie) that both ex-husband and now-18-year-old son are alive, the boat disaster faked so the father could abduct his unwitting son. Pulling herself together and out of her shell, the mother races to find them and to retrieve her son, before they disappear again.

Mystery/Drama. I absolutely loved this movie. I was wanting to watch a movie & it was listed in my Lifetime On Demand, so I gave it a try. I cannot imagine having something like this situation happen, and her husband obviously does not want to be found. You cannot get in between a mother’s love for her child. I would definitely watch this movie again.
